REQUEST FOR DOCUMENTS FOR EMPLOYMENT TRIBUNAL CASES MERIT ASSESSMENT

This is to advise, despite there being significant improvement, that we continue to experience significant delays in completing case merit assessments for members.

The effect of this is that members do not know quite often until very late in proceedings whether their case has the prospective merits and whether they will receive Union support. This often leaves members understandably anxious in what can be a difficult time.

Consequently, we are working hard with Unionline on getting the completion time for these assessments down to an acceptable level.

However, we have had some pushbacks from Unionline, who inform us that a significant cause for the delay is the lack of the requested documents being provided in a timely fashion.

To encourage the timely provision of these documents, the department is implementing a 21 day cut off period. This will involve Branches and members receiving two reminders after which they will receive a 7 day notice of the file being closed, unless the documents are received or an acceptable explanation as to why the documents have not been sent.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Taylor
