KEVIN SHAW – FORMER CWU NATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER AND NATIONAL HONORARY MEMBER

KEVIN SHAW – FORMER CWU NATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY OFFICER AND NATIONAL HONORARY MEMBER

It is with deep sadness that we write to advise you that Kevin Shaw, former CWU National Health and Safety officer and National Honorary member, passed away suddenly at home on the 31st August.

Throughout the course of his long career Kevin made a tremendous contribution in representing our members and the union, within the CWU and our predecessor unions, the UCW and UPW.

Kevin joined the then UPW in 1970 and after holding numerous positions within what is now the North Lancs and Cumbria Branch, he was elected to the National Executive Council in 1988 and became a CWU National Officer in 1993.  After his retirement in 2002, he remained active within the union and the wider Labour movement and was always there to offer his advice and support, particularly in the area of Employment Tribunals where he had shown considerable expertise.

I know I speak on behalf of all those who knew Kevin in saying he will be sorely missed by his many friends and colleagues within the union and we offer our sincere condolences to his wife Maddie and their family.

We have been advised that the Funeral will take place on the 16th September at 11.30 Saint Teresa’s Church Penwortham, Preston.

For further information of the funeral arrangements please contact Barry Bowes Branch Secretary of North Lancs and Cumbria bfbowes@hotmail.com

Any other enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the General Secretary at jdunn@cwu.org

Yours sincerely

Dave Ward
General Secretary
