Domestic Violence Against Women
Further to composite motion 10, which was carried at the last CWU Women’s Conference, we are writing to confirm details to highlight the work of the White Ribbon Campaign. This Campaign focuses on the unique aspect of being led by an all male group who are determined to raise awareness around the issue of domestic violence faced by women.
The motion calls for the White Ribbon Campaign to be supported in line with the Early Day Motion 259, tabled by Labour MP for York – Hugh Bayley, which seeks to build a better understanding of the effects of domestic violence and how to counter and educate all on its effects.
We have been in dialogue with the Campaign group and as things stand, they do not have an affiliation process; however, they do accept donations and are a registered charity. They are based in the North East and their representatives would be more than happy to attend meetings to help raise awareness on this subject. If any Branch or RWC wishes to do this, they should contact Chris Green on 07941 597584.
Similarly, in relation to the same motion, we have also been in dialogue with the Corporate Alliance Against Domestic Violence (CAADV), as the motion also requested affiliation with CAADV. CAADV have been unable to confirm an affiliation process to date but equally their representatives would be more than amenable to speaking at any meetings co-ordinated for the benefit of our members. Initial enquiries should be raised with Melissa Morbeck on 07917 228760.
I would like to thank the York & District and Cleveland Amal Branches for submitting this motion to the last CWU Women’s Conference.
Any enquiries regarding this LTB should be referred to the Equal Opportunities Department.
