CHRIS BRUEN – FORMER SECRETARY OF YORK & DISTRICT COMBINED BRANCH

CHRIS BRUEN – FORMER SECRETARY OF YORK & DISTRICT COMBINED BRANCH
I am sorry to have to advise branches that Chris Bruen, former Secretary of York & District Combined Branch and Secretary of the North East Engineering Committee, passed away on Saturday 30th July 2016.
Chris joined Post Office Telephones in 1969 and worked in York Telephone Area. He became a member of the Post Office Engineering Union (POEU) Hull Branch, where he became an active member of the branch Committee. He became branch Chair and then later had a period as Branch Secretary. Following a number of branch mergers, Chris became secretary of the York branch which was one of the first clerical and engineering mergers in the National Communication Union (NCU). He was very proud of this merger and his position as branch secretary. Chris also held some regional positions within the union. Chris retired from British Telecom in 2002.
We are advised that as a CWU Retired member he remained active in the union and also continued his duties as a local magistrate, as a member of the Board of Prison Visitors at Wolds Prison and an Associate Manager with his local Mental Health Trust.
Chris Bruen showed great dedication to his members over many years and we know that he will be missed by many friends and colleagues in the union. At this very sad time, our thoughts are with his wife Yvonne and sons Sean and Paul. I will on behalf of CWU convey our deepest sympathy and condolences to them.
The funeral will take place on:-
