The TUC has called a major rally on Saturday 18th June to demand change in the country and a pay rise for workers in Britain.

We are in the middle of huge pay disputes across the union.

The TUC has called a major rally on Saturday 18th June to demand change in the country and a pay rise for workers in Britain.

We know so many of you work on a Saturday but if you don’t, we are urging you to make the trip to London.

Travel costs will be met by branches and it promises to be a huge demonstration with potentially hundreds of thousands of workers on the streets.

The rally starts at 11:00 in Portland Place, London and closes, after speeches at 2:30pm at Parliament Square.

Please speak to you branch about this if you have a day off and do everything you possibly can to attend.

Enough is enough.

POST OFFICE: PAY DISPUTE 2021/22 – OFFICIAL STRIKES SATURDAY 4TH JUNE (CROWNS) AND MONDAY 6TH JUNE (ADMIN & SUPPLY CHAIN)

POST OFFICE: PAY DISPUTE 2021/22 – OFFICIAL STRIKES SATURDAY 4TH JUNE (CROWNS) AND MONDAY 6TH JUNE (ADMIN & SUPPLY CHAIN)

Further to LTB 235/22 dated 20th May 2022.

Branches are advised that a further home mailing has been sent to our Post Office members (attached) with the next strike dates which are as follows:

  • Saturday 4th June – Crown members
  • Monday 6th June – Admin & Supply Chain members

We also highlighted to our members the long-awaited publication of the Post Office Annual Report & Accounts for 2020/21.  Despite the pandemic, Post Office still made a very healthy profit of £35m which demonstrates that they can well afford to provide our members with a good pay rise, as a small part of the £35m profit could easily be used to fund a pay deal.  Instead, Post Office is choosing to impose its will by insisting on a pay freeze for 2021/22.  The attached Briefing Document from our Research Department provides a summary of the PO Report & Accounts for your information.

Strike Materials Including Graphics for Social Media

Branches are encouraged to support our Post Office members and Reps on picket lines where possible.  The full-time Reps will have details of the picket lines around the country.  If you require any further leaflets/posters, the following link provides you with updated materials including social media graphics.

Thank you for your support.  Further developments will be reported.

Yours sincerely

Andy Furey
Assistant Secretary

CAPITA TVL: PAY – ACAS MEETING CONFIRMED & MEMBERS’ PAY SURVEY

CAPITA TVL: PAY – ACAS MEETING CONFIRMED & MEMBERS’ PAY SURVEY

Further to LTB206/22 dated 4thMay.

Branches are advised that a meeting has now been arranged at Acas for Wednesday 1st Juneduring which it is hoped good progress will be made on pay for our Capita TVL members (pay date 1st January 2022).

Members’ Pay Survey & Home Mailing

In preparation for our meeting at Acas, with the help of the Research Department, we have designed a survey for our members to canvass their opinions on pay and importantly, what their aspirations look like.  There are eight simple questions which will take less than five minutes to answer and we are therefore hoping for a good response rate.

We wrote directly to members at their home addresses (attached) to update them on the Acas talks and to alert them to the survey, which will be sent to their Capita email addresses (the responses will be anonymous).  The survey questions were reproduced on the back of the home mailing for information purposes.

Our Senior Capita Reps are fully supportive of the members’ Pay survey and are encouraging everyone to participate so we have as much data as possible prior to the meeting at Acas to highlight to TVL management the views of our members on their pay during the Cost of Living crisis.

Further developments will be reported after the meeting on 1stJune.

Yours sincerely

Andy Furey
Assistant Secretary

TUC New Deal/Cost of Living Demo – Support Building Across the Movement

TUC New Deal/Cost of Living Demo – Support Building Across the Movement

The purpose of this LTB is to share some further information on the June 18th rally in London and to also inform branches of work that is taking place across the movement to deliver a major turnout.

We are now seeing the vast majority of unions putting significant resources into their mobilisation plans with home mailings, videos, social media content and workplace activities.

The demonstration now looks set to be one of the biggest in recent times.  We are delighted to see this work taking place across our movement, particularly given the New Deal campaign has been led by the CWU.

Against this background, it’s crucial that our union delivers a massive turnout on the day.  The central point of the rally, alongside calling for an overall new deal for workers, is to demand a pay rise for workers across the UK and this totally supports the major industrial campaigns the CWU is currently undertaking.

We fully appreciate that a large percentage of our members work on a Saturday and we are also aware of some travel difficulties on the 18th in certain parts of the UK.  Allowing for this, we still ask that every single CWU branch makes the 18th June a priority commitment and recognises that this TUC demo compliments all of our key industrial campaigns.

It is also important the day feels different so we reiterate the request to include friends and families in your delegations.

We have received several enquiries from branches about merchandise.  CWU HQ will provide a pack of promotional goods to every attendee, which will include a CWU hi-vis.

We would also love to see every branch bring their banner to the march and wear CWU colours.  This will help us to create as colourful and vibrant a block as possible.

CWU HQ will produce banners promoting support for the Royal Mail Group, BT Group and POL disputes.

To create a fun atmosphere, we will provide lots of music via a CWU playlist and we are encouraging branches to submit the songs you want to hear and we will get them played on the day.

Let us know any particular songs you want played via this link https://www.cwu.org/the-peoples-playlist

Finally, in the coming days we will be sharing a number of videos to build support for the rally.  Please share them on your social media channels.

Thank you for all of your support and work on this and our other campaigns.

Yours sincerely

General Secretary

PATHWAY TO CHANGE – THE BIG TRUST SURVEY 2022 HEADLINE RESULTS

PATHWAY TO CHANGE – THE BIG TRUST SURVEY 2022 HEADLINE RESULTS

Further to LTB 83/22 that was circulated on 25th February 2022, Branches and Representatives will be aware that this year’s Big Trust Survey commenced on 4th April and closed on 24th April 2022.

Royal Mail Group have now provided the headline results from this survey following their announcement to the financial markets on 19th May 2022. These are attached for the information of Branches.

The return rate for the survey was 69%, which is up 6% on last year, although this figure contains just under 6,000 managers. This return rate is also however 1% down on the aggregated interim survey returns. The number of frontline participants was 91,255 and figures are also listed to illustrate the exact way that people responded to the survey.

Branches and Representatives will note that the trust score (that is based on the five key questions) is 68%, which is 1% down on the average of the interim survey results.

Another point of note is that the question “I trust the senior leadership of this company” is the lowest scoring question with 42%. Whilst this is a 1% improvement on last year it is still 20% behind what Royal Mail Group have stated is the UK benchmark.

A cause for concern is that there are still only 48% of respondents that believe “action has been taken as a result of the previous Trust Survey in my work area” which suggests that either joint action plans are not being formulated or in some cases are still failing to be jointly monitored.

Branches will appreciate that despite the current climate it is still important that this joint work continues and the DGS(P) Department has continued to meet with management to discuss the survey and how this will evolve.

In closing I would like to thank Postal Executive members Katrina Quirke, Shelley Banbury and Rob Wotherspoon for their ongoing work on this matter.

Any enquiries in relation to the content of this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department.

Yours sincerely

Terry Pullinger
Deputy General Secretary (Postal)
