Dispute Relating to the Royal Mail Group Proposal to Create Parcelforce Ltd a Separate Legal Trading Company within Royal Mail Group
Branches will be aware that the External Mediator, John Purcell received the CWU submission pack in relation to the above dispute involving Parcelforce early on Thursday morning, 19th September 2019.
We know that all Branches, Parcelforce Regional Organisers and Unit Representatives are well versed in the specific issues of both the Parcelforce and Royal Mail Group disputes. We are also aware that extensive effort is going in to arranging and holding gate meetings around the country to ensure that our members have a full understanding of the issues and why it is vital that they VOTE YES when they receive their ballot papers.
As you will be aware due to the legalities around the ballot arrangements our Parcelforce members will be receiving ballot papers for both the Parcelforce and RMG disputes.
It is therefore imperative that additional efforts are made at every opportunity to ensure that our Parcelforce members are aware that both of the ballot papers that they will receive hold equal status and they are encouraged to VOTE YES on each of the papers and return them both.
Attached is some further material that we would ask you to circulate that reiterates the Union’s specific demands in both disputes. The posters should be used for noticeboards and we would encourage every unit to ensure that these are displayed.
We hope that the attached will be of assistance to you when addressing your Parcelforce members and we would also request that the attached information is handed out at gate meetings and used for photo opportunities and social media.
We would like to place on record our thanks to everyone who has held what have been truly inspirational gate meetings and ask that you make every effort to keep up the good work and ensure that the excellent engagement that has been taking place with members continues at every opportunity.
The Royal Mail Group mediation has commenced today and the Parcelforce specific External Mediation is scheduled to commence on Thursday 26th September 2019 and we will report developments as they occur.
Any enquiries in relation to the content of this LTB should be addressed to the DGS(P) Department or Davie Robertson, Assistant Secretary.
Yours sincerely,
Terry Pullinger – DGS(P)

Public Health England (PHE) New Mental Health Campaign “Every Mind Matters” – Launches on 7th October 2019:
PHE’s major new Mental Health Campaign, “Every Mind Matters” will be launched on 7th October 2019.
The plans is for a huge amount of media coverage with the launch going out across a collection of some of England’s biggest TV channels, as well as radio, national newspapers and social media.
The launch will be supported by a number of celebrities, companies, organisations and big brands who are committed to supporting and promoting the campaign through their own communication channels.
PHE have stated that the campaign is fully supported by NHS England and will be NHS branded and clinically assured. The NHS and their public-sector partners will also be fully involved and they are planning to have trusted conversations with the public as well as highlighting how their services can aid a person’s mental health and wellbeing.
Campaign Aims
PHE say that the campaign aims are to support everyone to feel more confident in taking action to take care of their mental health and wellbeing – promoting a range of self-care actions to promote good mental health and tackle common problems, as well as signposting wider resources and services for those in greater need.
Through use of the campaign’s content and navigation tool, PHE’s aim is for 1 million members of the adult population in England to be better informed and equipped to look after their own mental health and to support others.
Campaign Tool and Content
The campaign offers free, NHS-approved mental health resources, via the new “One You” Website, which helps build understanding of mental health and what individuals can do to improve and manage how they are feeling.
The navigation tool asks users a few questions to identify the type of issues they are facing. This allows users to generate a tailored self-care action plan to support their mental health and wellbeing.
For those who want to learn more about common problems there are more in-depth modules on stress, sleeplessness, anxiety and low mood.
There will also be information on Trauma, OCD, panic and social anxiety – although these will not be promoted via the campaign.
Each module contains information on what can cause changes in people’s mental health, possible signs to look out for, advice on things you can do and importantly, explain what’s OK and when people should seek further support, including links to IAPT. (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies IAPT programme began in 2008 and treats adult anxiety and depression. It’s a widely recognised talking therapy. One million people use IAPT services every year to help overcome their depression and anxiety and better manage their mental health.)
Through the new ‘Every Mind Matters Campaign’ advice will also be available for those who want to support others who are struggling with their mental health.
The new campaign builds on the achievements of anti-stigma-focussed mental health campaigns by offering simple advice for self-care and encourages individuals to take action. It’s not a treatment service and has been designed to complement wider services including IAPT, with appropriate signposting for those who would benefit from additional support.
