Magnum Bandera Trainer – Feedback Process Update

Magnum Bandera Trainer – Feedback Process Update

Dear Colleagues,

Further to LTB 008/18, dated the 12th January 2018 in regards to the Magnum Bandera Trainer Feedback Process.

Following a few enquires to the Outdoor Department, it can be confirmed that the Royal Mail Magnum Bandera Trainer trials online questionnaire will now be made available to those members who request it in a paper version by their relevant manager (copy also attached), with the manager also being responsible to ensure that the complete questionnaire is forwarded on.

It is noted that this Magnum Bandera Trainer trial feedback process (which has the potential of involving some 12,000 individuals) would be better facilitated via an on-line questionnaire system. However, it is equally important to ensure that those individuals who wish to give feedback can do so in a format which best suits them, and which will hopefully ensure a higher level of feedback than we have seen previously with such footwear trials.

It is hoped that this clarification is of assistance in terms of any local level queries received, however, it may take a few days for this to filter down to Delivery Office Manager level. Therefore, if Branches and Representatives are still having difficulties in this regard, can they please direct any questions on the above to the Outdoor Department, reference 500, email address: outdoorsecretary@cwu.org.

Yours sincerely,

Mark Baulch

Assistant Secretary

LINDA ROY – CWU NATIONAL OFFICER

LINDA ROY – CWU NATIONAL OFFICER

The purpose of this LTB is to announce that Linda Roy, CWU National Officer, has decided to leave the union at the end of February 2018.

The CWU would wish to place on record our sincere thanks for the work Linda has done on behalf of our members over many years.

Linda was elected to the Postal Executive and NEC in 1995 to 2002 and subsequently became the Assistant Secretary Equal Opportunities in 2008.

Linda Roy has made an immense contribution to the union and has led a number of very important initiatives to take forward our Equality Agenda. Linda has also been a role model and good example to women across the whole union and has demonstrated her own strength of character to the union and our members throughout her career.

In due course, we will ensure Linda’s contribution is properly recognised. In the meantime, we know that Branches, Representatives and members will join us in thanking Linda and wish her all the best for the future.

Finally, we will advise Branches prior to Linda’s departure on the arrangements that will be put in place to ensure the work and services provided by the Equality Department will be maintained.

Any enquiries on the above LTB should be addressed to the gsoffice@cwu.org.

Yours sincerely

Air pollution in the UK is a public health emergency. Over 40,000 people die each year from causes linked to the air that they breathe – more than obesity and alcohol combined.

Workers are exposed to and create pollution to fulfil contractual obligations to employers. It is an occupational health issue that employers take little responsibility for.

Attending this course will help you to:

• Examine why air pollution is both a workplace issue and a public health one

• Find out about air pollution busting Citizen Science techniques

• Create action plans to deal with workplace exposures

• Create action plans to meaningfully engage in air pollution with local councils

• Share experience, knowledge and ideas

Joint Statement between Royal Mail and CWU Regarding the Introduction of a New One Hour Driver Training Course

Joint Statement between Royal Mail and CWU Regarding the Introduction of a New One Hour Driver Training Course

Dear Colleagues,

Branches will recall LTB 653/16 issued on the 4th November 2016 and the agreed Terms of Reference – Driver Risk Assessment Trial. The LTB informed of a revised approach to Driver Risk Assessment (DRA) with a new approach that was considered to be far more proactive in its calculation of a risk score for the driver.

Royal Mail and Pertemps have since developed a 1 hour classroom session covering a broad range of key road safety subjects designed to achieve a safety culture in high impact units, or where an issue has been identified. The course does not involve any driving but instead targets behavioural change through engaging with drivers and prompting thought about driving styles, attitude to risk and potential consequences for the individuals and many other people.

The course will be used where improved driving behaviours are sought either within a unit or for an individual. It is not intended to replace the full induction or post collision courses and will be aimed at groups of up to 12 drivers but can be delivered on a 1 – 1 basis where deemed proper or necessary. This course will be available for units to call-off as required on the ‘Pertemps’ on-line training Portal and is an addition to the existing training courses available through Pertemps.

All of the key road safety subjects covered are already included in other longer courses and communications; however this new course provides training using a new approach and the option of lighter touch than the full 4 hour 1 – 1 on-road training courses.

As this issue was negotiated by the Industrial Department, any queries to the content of the above should be directed to the Outdoor Department reference 300.02, email address: outdoorsecretary@cwu.org

Yours sincerely,

Mark Baulch
