TUC Womens Conference

Date:  4th – 6th March 2020

Venue: TUC Congress Centre, London

 

TUC Black Workers Conference

Date:  24th – 26th April 2020

Venue: TUC Congress Centre, London

 

TUC Disabled Workers Conference

Date:  21st – 22nd May 2020

Venue: BIC, Bournemouth

 

TUC LGBT Workers Conference

Date:  25th – 26th June 2020

Venue: TUC Congress Centre, London

 

The Timetable for the elections is as follows:

Nominations open:                              10 January 2020

Nominations close:                             24 January 2020 (14:00)

Dispatch ballot papers:                      28 January 2020

Ballot closes:                                         11 February 2020 (14:00)

 

Reminders:

  • All candidates for election to the TUC Womens Conference must be women.
  • All nominees require the nomination of their own Branch.

CWU Young Workers Conference 

CWU Young Workers Conference 

The Young Workers Conference is taking place at the Marriott City Centre Hotel, 2 Lower Castle Street, Old Market, Bristol, BS1 3AD on Tuesday 21st January 2020.

The CWU have secured a number of bedrooms at the hotel at a rate of £138.00 per night bed and breakfast for Monday 20th January 2020.     At present we still have rooms available on a first come first serve basis.

If your delegates/observers require accommodation for the conference or you are unsure whether accommodation has been reserved for your delegate(s)/observer(s) please contact Lauren Townsend at CWU Headquarters by email to ltownsend@cwu.org who will be able to assist with your request.

If the delegates/observers fancy meeting up with the Young Workers Committee and other delegates on the evening of Monday 20th, please meet in the bar area of the hotel at 7.00pm.

LABOUR LEADERSHIP AND DEPUTY LEADERSHIP ELECTION PROCESS

Branches will be aware that the timetable for the Labour Leadership and Deputy Leadership elections was announced yesterday and this is as follows:

  • 7-13 Jan – nominations from MPs and MEPs
  • 15 Jan-14 Feb – CLPs (local parties) & unions can nominate candidates
  • 20 Jan – freeze date for new members joining the party to be entitled to vote
  • 21 Feb-2 April – voting period
  • 4 April – result

You will also see from the timetable above that affiliated unions have the right to nominate candidates by 14th February 2020. The purpose of this LTB is to advise branches that we will be undertaking a democratic internal CWU process that will involve branches in confirming the candidates we will be nominating.

The detail of how this process will operate is currently under discussion and further information will follow by early next week at the latest. This will also include detailed information on the process for CWU individual members to vote in these elections as affiliated supporters. Further to LTB 862/19, Branches are reminded that the online registration for the above conference is open to register delegates/visitors to the above conference. The conference is taking place at the Marriott City Centre Hotel in Bristol on Tuesday 21stJanuary 2020.

The closing date for registration will be Wednesday 15th January to enable CWU HQ to organise credentials for the event.

Please find attached motion forms for Postal Conference 2020. The purpose of this Letter to Branches is to remind those Branches/Co-ordinating Committees who do not have access to an email facility that they must contact head office direct to request hard copies of the forms to be despatched to them. They should contact Angela Niven on 020 8971 7256.

We also take this opportunity to attach to this Letter to Branches the Motion Guide for submitting Motions to Postal Conference 2020.

Branches/Co-ordinating Committees are also reminded that the closing date for the submission of motions to Postal Conference is by midnight on Tuesday 18th February 2020, either by post to Angela Niven, CWU 150 the Broadway, Wimbledon London SW19 1RX or by email to postalmotions@cwu.org No motions will be accepted that go to any other e-mail address as the conference guide to motions refers.

CWU GENERAL CONFERENCE 2020 – OBITUARY LIST

It is the practice to include in the General Conference Agenda pad a reference to those members who have served the Union in many different capacities who have sadly passed away since the previous conference.

Please let us know the names of those members of your Branch whom you wish to have included in the Obituary List for 2020.

Following the decision of the National Executive Council, the Obituary List to be published in the General Conference Agenda pad shall include the names of all members who have died in the previous twelve months, as notified by Branches.

To enable the list to be prepared for inclusion in the agenda, all names must be received no later than Friday 14th February 2020. Unfortunately any names received after this date will not be able to be included. Notification should be either by letter addressed to Angela Niven at CWU Headquarters or by email to conferences@cwu.orgInformation supplied should include initials, surname and branch.

Rivus Fleet Solutions Branch Forum / Consultative Committee Meeting – 29 January

The next meeting of the Rivus Fleet Solutions Consultative Committee takes place on 29 January at 11am in Conference Room 1 at CWU HQ.

Please be reminded that those branches with members employed by Rivus Fleet Solutions will be eligible to send one delegate to the Consultative Committee. Delegates should be preferably employed by Rivus Fleet Solutions and the cost of the branch delegates attending this meeting will be borne by the branches. The National Team will be in attendance but are not entitled to be delegates.
Please provide any agenda items and the name of the person attending to Julie Quaife on jquaife@cwu.org so that visitors’ security passes can be prepared in advance.
