Branch Political Officers Report for Branch Committee Meeting 24th February 2015
Political Fund LtB809/14
The branch has been contacted by Carl Harper regarding the issue of the spilt political fund as mention in LtB 809/14 (attached for information) I have written to the General Secretary asking for guidance on the issues raised. At the time of writing I am awaiting a reply.
Boston & Skegness CLP
Paul Kenny the Labour Party candidate for the above constituency has been in touch with me regarding funding for his campaign, (email attached) following the receipt of Pauls email I contacted Linda Woodings who is the CWU East Midlands Regional Political Officer.
Linda was going to contact the East Midlands Trade Union Liaison Organisation (TULO) and ask that every TULO affiliated union make a donation to the CLP to fund a leaflet.
I have asked the Branch Finance committee for a donation of £50 to be made to the CLP, yesterday I spoke with Paul and he informed me that the GMB have agreed to fund the leaflet at a cost of £1000, but that he wanted to place 6 foot by 4 foot billboards on the routes into and out of Boston & Skegness reminding people to vote Labour. The £50 donation from the branch will pay for one of these boards.
Paul informs me that a number of Postal workers that he has spoken to are voting UKIP, I have asked him to send me copies of everything he sends out so that we can forward onto the membership in the CLP to highlight the work that Labour carries out.
Please find attached Lisa’s newsletter to Party members in Peterborough, also this month Lisa has sent out a city wide newsletter to all households this in turn has been accompanied by a National Labour Party leaflet.
Still The Enemy Within
On Friday the 6th February 6 members of the branch joined over 60 members of the public and trade unionists in the Joh Clare Theatre to watch the CWU Eastern 5 sponsored showing of Still the Enemy Within.
The film was made by a group of miners who took part in the strike and we were lucky to have one of the producers and one of the miners from the film there on the evening to answer questions.
The Branch was thanked publicly on the night by Hazel Perry the secretary of PTUC who organised the event
