Political Officers Report July 2017

Branch Political Officers Report for Branch Committee meeting 24th July 2017

This is a short report as I am writing this a fortnight before the meeting due to my forthcoming Annual Leave, I will give a verbal update at the meeting.
Peterborough CLP AGM
I attended the AGM on Saturday 1st July on behalf of the branch, this was the best attended AGM for some time with over 70 members present, the Chair gave special thanks to the CWU for our help both financial and on the ground delivering leaflets during the general election campaign. I am proud to say that the CWU was the only union who helped the CLP financially.
I was elected to the position of CLP TULO Officer for the coming year, I have attached a copy of the roles and reasonability’s of the role to this report.
The AGM nominated Billy Hayes for Conference Arrangements Committee (SOC)
Peterborough City Council Bye Elections
As reported at the last meeting there will be a bye election in Eye and Thorney, the CLP Executive has selected Doctor Christian Defoe as the Labour candidate, there will also be a bye election in Park ward due to the resignation of Labours John Sharman, the time table for selection has at the time of writing not yet been set.
I have received a request from Christian for financial help with his campaign this has been passed to the branch finance committee, I have attached a copy of Christians CV and manifesto to this report.
Fiona Onasanya Peterborough MP
Fiona made her maiden speech in Parliament 5th July, I am looking to meet with Fiona in early August, when I spoke to her at the CLP AGM she again thanked the CWU for our work in getting her elected.
As of the time of writing Fiona is looking for an office in the City then she can advertise for staff, she has only just been allocated and office in Westminster and still has no access to a computer so is accessing emails from a mobile phone.
