Branch Political Officers Report For Branch Committee Meeting 24th June 2016
Regional Political Committee,
The Eastern Region Political committee held its last meeting on Friday 20th June at the London Regional Office.
The meeting started with a tribute from Paul Moffat and Andy Beeby for Sue Lewis Branch Secretary of CCTV who sadly passed away on holiday in Spain, and ba minutes silence was held.
The committee went onto discuss the European Referendum at length, I will cover this later in my report.
Local Elections were held across the branch in May for local council and Police and Crime Commissioner Election, In Peterborough the boundaries were changed giving an advantage to the Tories.
Peterborough was the only Tory gain in the country, the City MP Stewart Jackson had the Prime Minister in the city the next day to celebrate, what they failed to mention to the press was that in the Peterborough CLP, Labour have more councillors than the Tories, also that the sitting mayor was only just elected behind 2 Labour candidates by 10 votes.
I have attached the election results to this report
Police and Crime Commissioner
The Conservatives won all of the seats in the branch
As previously reported the referendum will take place on 23rd June, following the carriage of Emergency Motion 3 at General conference the CWU will be recommending that members vote to remain in Europe.
Headquarters have issued a timetable for the campaign see attached; Headquarters have stated that branches / Regions are Not allowed to spend any money on this campaign.
